Abdominal Release Therapy is a gentle, hands-on technique that focuses on the soft tissues, fascia, and connective structures of the abdomen, diaphragm, and lower back. These areas can develop tension or restrictions over time due to stress, posture habits, previous injury, surgery, inflammation, or repetitive strain. When these restrictions are present, they may contribute to discomfort, limited mobility, or patterns of tension throughout the body.
This therapy uses light, specific techniques designed to encourage relaxation and improved mobility in the tissues of the core and surrounding structures. The work is slow, intentional, and respectful of the body’s natural response, making it very different from deep tissue or high-pressure massage work.
What to Expect
During your session, the therapist will apply gentle pressure and subtle movements to the abdominal area, diaphragm, and surrounding regions including the lower back. This treatment requires undraping of the abdomen to allow direct access to abdominal tissues. Women will have the option to keep their bra on or have their chest draped during this session.
The approach is non-invasive and typically very calming. Clients often describe the experience as deeply relaxing, with a noticeable sense of ease in areas that previously felt tight or restricted. Because the work is subtle, awareness of change may unfold
gradually during or after the session.
Some clients may experience temporary effects following treatment such as mild soreness, fatigue, increased body awareness, or emotional release as the body adjusts to changes in tissue tension.
Potential Benefits
Clients may experience:
- Reduced tension in the abdomen, and surrounding musculature
- Improved mobility and flexibility in the core region
- Enhanced relaxation and body awareness
- Better diaphragmatic movement and breathing patterns
- Relief from restrictions related to scar tissue or postural strain
- A greater sense of balance and overall well-being
